HOW IT WORKS
1. HARVEST
Harvest your crop
(for cash basis farmers only)
2. DELIVER
You the farmer, deliver grain to your choice of grain elevator (or bin).
3. SHARE
Farmer contacts Bushels of Hope to ensure that they are set up with your elevator and then asks elevator to transfer X number of bushels to the charity.
Bushels of Hope receives ownership of the commodity, receives warehouse receipt, and pays any subsequent ownership costs such as storage, etc.
4. GIVE HOPE
Bushels of Hope authorizes sale and collects proceeds from the commodity to be used to further its mission!
Farmer gets to exclude the sale of the cash crop from income and deduct the costs of growing the crop!
(Farmer includes production expenses on the tax return (in paid year) but not the sale of the gifted bushels).
FARMER TESTIMONIAL
My wife and I are wheat farmers in Rockford, Washington, and are very grateful for the Bushels of Hope. We have been praying for a way to help end human trafficking and the Bushels of Hope provides us an easy and unique way to help. Not only are we able to write off the growth of the bushels we donate, but Bushels of Hope is then able to use the funds toward providing programs for those in need.
